Former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani has broken his silence after Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
Reacting on Sunday, Sani stated that their withdrawal from ECOWAS was a serious setback for West Africa.
The leaders of the three Sahel nations disclosed this in a joint statement on Sunday.
Recall that all three were suspended from ECOWAS, with Niger and Mali facing heavy sanctions.
According to the military juntas, it was a “sovereign decision” to leave the Economic Community of West African States “without delay”.
However, the former lawmaker stated that the development signified the failure of diplomacy and dialogue.
“The Withdrawal of Mali, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso from Ecowas is a serious setback for West Africa.
“It signifies the failure of diplomacy and dialogue. We lost our African blood brothers because of our Western conditional friends.
“We sacrificed our hands to keep our wristwatches,” Sani wrote on his X handle.
