Former Director General of the Labour Party campaign organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has identified problems with Nigeria’s democracy.
This followed the violence, disruption and disenfranchisement voters suffered during last Saturday’s election.
Okupe in a tweet on Monday identified pervasive corruption, illiteracy, crippling poverty, massive youth unemployment, lack of respect for rule of law, the malleability of the judiciary and the absence of the fear of God as problems affecting Nigeria’s democracy.
According to him, no amount of ‘change mantras’ in politics, or activism of the youth will change the status quo.
“We must find a way to deal with the above 7 demons and collectively pray and ask God to change our hearts towards righteousness & godliness.
“Else, we go round these unprogressive cycles endlessly,” he added.
