A feminist group has slammed the presiding bishop and founder of Living Faith Church David Oyedepo who said that women today believe they are smarter than God when it comes to the subject of obedience, and he blamed the feminist movement for this. Feminism, he cautioned the ladies in his church, leads to dissatisfaction and destruction.
“Right now, there is a feminine revolution. And then you get into feminine frustration and destiny devastation.”
“You know something, no book on earth will ever overtake the Bible in currency. It is the eternal truth. While the earth remains, the truth of scriptures remains in force, you either choose to follow or go your way.
“For we can do nothing against the truth, no matter what civilisation we are talking about, but for the truth at all times. So, if feminist revolution is your vision, don’t attempt to get married, because it won’t work.”
In reaction to the statement, the Nigeria Feminist Forum issued a statement signed by its Communications Officer, Angela Nkwo, where they submitted that they are not pleased with Oyedepo’s comments that the “Feminism movement leads to frustration and devastation.”
“Casting huge aspersions on being a woman, its definition and expectations therein when he advised women against joining the feminist movement because it leads to frustration and devastation; contrary to the claims spread by people, feminism is about demanding gender equity, justice and access to equal resources for everyone, which will benefit families, communities and the wider society as a whole.
“The cleric’s comments justified the notion that women do not lead branches of the church popularly called Winners chapel, saying it is condemnable as women form a followership of the congregation.”
“We need to ask the eminent cleric, did feminists and the coalition’s cause the unproductivity of his pastors, or the insecurity and high inflation that have enveloped the nation?”
