The Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman, Eunice Asuelie, for allegedly sex trafficking her 15-year-old daughter.
It was gathered that Asuelie allegedly forced her daughter, Esther (not real name), to a suspected sex trafficker at a hotel in Udu Local Government Area of the state.
A human rights activist, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, who confirmed the development to the Punch said that Esther escaped from the suspected sex trafficker and sought refuge with her classmate’s family in Effurun.
“The young girl has since been released to the care of the proprietress of Triumphal Model School in Effurun, Magareth Oghuvwu,” he said.
“We were at the Anti-Trafficking Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba, Delta State Police Headquarters on Friday for interview.
“I was among those interviewed by the police. This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and exploitation in Nigeria, with many victims lured into exploitation through false promises of employment or a better life.”
The spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the woman’s detention, stating that the command would investigate all persons involved in the case.
“I can confirm that the mother is in detention at the police headquarters and the police are investigating the whole matter”, he added.
