Following Davido’s inquiries, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has responded.
The commission has up to 14 days to provide the Certificate of Return to the election winner, according to the electoral authority (CoR).
After Ademola Adeleke had won the Osun State governorship election and had been in office for 48 hours, the DMW chief questioned why the commission had not given him a Certificate of Return.
In response to Davido, the commission claimed it had up to 14 days to give the winner the CoR in a statement signed by Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee. He said, “Those that intervene and play roles in the electoral process should try to have basic knowledge of the constitutive legal instruments that guide and regulate the conduct of elections.
“The commission is a public trust and a creation of the Constitution and the law and must be seen to respond to public demands for transparency and openness.
“The commission will continue to uphold the basic tenets of transparency, openness and inclusivity in the conduct of elections and the delivery of electoral services.”
