COVID-19: Police Prosecute 20 Violators Of Lockdown In Ilorin

An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday convicted 20 violators of the stay-at-home order aimed at containing the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Kwara State Government imposed a total lockdown order on residents as a way of preventing the spread of the pandemic that has killed thousands of people across the globe.

The convicts are Hussein Faruk, Amoyo Solihu, Olabanji Olayanju, Saka Moserere, Ambali Ishola, Taofeek Shadu, Suleiman Ibrahim, Salami Sunday, Popoola Jonathan and Ganiyu Abodunrin.

Others are Atanda Razaq, Monday Banjo, Osein Musbau, Abdulrasaq Musa, Moshood Abiola, Tijani Babalola, Quadri Bashiru, Afolabi Olusegun, Maruf Hamzat and Agun Friday.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Abegunde Elijah told the court that the convicts were arrested by security personnel for violating the lockdown order.

Abegunde added that the convicts who are motorists and motorcyclists were arrested at different locations within the Ilorin metropolis.

In his ruling, Magistrate Anafi Folorunsho released all the violators to go back home but ordered that their seized vehicles and motorcycles were to remain in police custody till May 4, when the lockdown order would have been relaxed.
