Court Remands Ekiti Pastor Who Faked His Kidnap

The Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court Sitting in Ado Ekiti has remanded in Prison a Cleric of a Methodist Church in Ado Ekiti, Reverend Adegoke Adewuyi who faked his own kidnap.

The court also remanded his accomplice Ajewole Oluwadare.

When the case was mentioned on Monday, Police Prosecutor, Mrs Monica Ekebuilo told the court that the accused committed the offence on the eleventh of this month at a hotel within Ado Ekiti metropolis.

Ekebuilo stated that the act of aiding and abetting kidnapping as well as false representation committed by the cleric was grievous and punishable under section 5 and 7 of state kidnap and terrorism prohibition law.

The Prosecutor said “the suspect has confessed to the crime of demanding three million naira as ransom having faked his own kidnap.”

The trial Chief Magistrate, Dupe Akosile ordered the accused to be remanded in Prison pending the issuance of DPP legal advice and subsequently adjourned the case til the 24th of July.
