As coronavirus spreads slowly across Nigeria, the management of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, has suspended all academic activities involving students, effective from Friday, March 20.
The university instructed the students, international postgraduate students, except to proceed on mid-semester break and vacate the halls of residence.
The university management said the fumigation of the halls of residence would begin with immediate effect. FUTA sends students home, begins fumigation of hostels amid coronavirus spread.
A statement signed by the university’s registrar, R.A. Arifalo advised the students to observe all prescribed precautions and hygienic practices relating to the prevention against Covid-19.
The university management, however, stated that members of staff are expected to continue with their normal official functions. The staff are also strongly advised to maintain proper hygiene and other prescribed anti-infection practices including social distancing. The statement noted that the date for resumption for students will be communicated in due course.
