Nigerian youths have been told to go out and collect their permanent voter cards ahead of the 2023 election.

A candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Anambra North senatorial district, Dr Tony Nwoye stated this, adding that campaign on social media is good, but elections are not won there.

He said it would be advisable if youths take the campaign beyond social media to get involved directly in the electoral system in other to determine who leads them after the 2023 general election.

The Labour Party candidate spoke at Nsugbe in Anambra East Local Government while signing a peace accord to demonstrate his commitment towards a peaceful and credible poll.

Nwoye, who is a former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), emphasised the need for youths to collect their PVCs because campaigning on social media is totally different from actualising their dreams through voting.

He said his major interest was the inclusion of youths and persons with disabilities, underscoring the need for them to be encouraged, engaged and empowered to ensure a peaceful nation.

He advised the youth to channel their energies to positive adventures and endeavours rather than being involved in different vices.

The Executive Director, of Catch Them Young Community Initiative (CATYCOI), Nonso Orakwe, who was also present at the signing of the peace pact said it was important for candidates in partaking in the polls to foster peaceful, credible elections.

Orakwe said “CATYCOI is a youth-led organisation determined to promote good governance and democracy.

“We are here for you to make a commitment for a peaceful election and to support youths, women and persons with disabilities (PWDs) agenda.”
