The Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria has warned that any attempt to by the federal government to arrest Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed for treason will backfire.

According to Prophet Solomon Alao, the Supreme Head of the church, any such attempt would heat up the polity.

In his Easter message on Sunday, Alao said the Federal Government should assure the opposition of getting justice in court rather than threatening them.

According to Alao: “The Federal Government must tread softly in dealing with Obi and Datti and stop the threat of arresting and prosecuting them for treason.

“We have not seen enough persuasion and conviction from the government and the ruling party to convince the opposition parties and their candidates that they will not interfere in the judicial process, and this is the time to do that.”

The clergyman also cautioned Obi’s supporters against their utterances, adding that they should stop creating enemies for Obi.

Recently, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had accused Obi of committing “treason” by allegedly inciting people to violence following the outcome of the presidential election.
