GIOTV reports that a popular monarch in Oyo state, the Onigbeti of Igbetiland, Oba Emmanuel Oyekan Oyebisi, Afasegbejo III is dead.
It was gathered that the foremost monarch who became king in 2004 died at the age of 77.
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111 announced his death.
Alaafin condoled with the family and the entire people of igbeti and prayed that Grant him eternal rest.
Corroborating, the Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abiodun Oni mourned the death of the monarch.
“We received with utter shock and sadness the news of the death of HRH, Oba Emmanuel Oyekan Oyebisi, Afasegbejo III, the Onigbeti of Igbeti Land, after 17 years on the throne.’
“Oba Emmanuel Oyekan Oyebisi’s wealth of experience, his wisdom and the royal candour he exuded was epochal and defining of a King that loved his people,” he said.
The Commissioner extended his sincere condolences to the late Onigbeti’s family, his friends, associates and subjects, as well as the people of Olorunsogo local government on the departure of the monarch.
While he urged the Onigbeti’s family, friends, associates and subjects to be consoled by the knowledge that the deceased King lived a very fulfilled life, and has left worthy legacies for his successors to build upon.”
He prayed for the royal family and the rest of us, his subjects to have the fortitude to bear the loss of the Oba (ti o wo’aja) who has gone to meet his ancestors and for peace to continue to reign in Igbeti.
The royal family said the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
