Former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, is dead. He died early today (Tuesday) in Abuja.
A family source, said he died at a private hospital after nine days of sickness. He said the former deputy senate president died at about 2am on Tuesday.
Mantu was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Sunday when his condition worsened.
A top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also confirmed to GIOTV that Mantu, who represented Plateau Central Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, died after an ailment.
The late former deputy Senate President will be buried today.
Born on February 19, 1947, Mantu hailed from Gindiri, in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He was an influential political figure in Nigeria for several years. During the aborted third republic, he vied for the Chairmanship of the National Republican Convention (NRC) one of the two registered political parties.
In 2001 he was elected Deputy Senate President under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a position he held till 2007 when he served our his mandate.
