The Federal Government has apologized to Nigerians for the disappointing performance of the country’s athletes at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Paris, where the Nigerian contingent failed to win any medals.

Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development, acknowledged the poor outing and expressed regret that Nigeria’s performance fell short of expectations. He noted that preparations for the Olympics had not begun when he assumed office and that a comprehensive review would be conducted to determine what went wrong and how to improve for future events.

Enoh assured Nigerians that funds were not a limiting factor, thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support, and promised to evaluate athlete readiness, coaching, and administrative staff roles to learn from the experience and make necessary improvements.

This apology and commitment to review and improve come as a response to the country’s worst Olympic performance since 2012, with the aim of turning this setback into a positive force for Nigerian sports.
