The proposed meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) scheduled for Monday has been postponed to Wednesday, August 28. ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed the postponement, but no reason was given.

The meeting was intended to address ASUU’s demands, including improved welfare, university funding, and halting the proliferation of universities. However, with the postponement, the threat of a nationwide strike by public university lecturers looms large.

ASUU’s national executive council meeting on August 19 resolved to embark on a strike over the Federal Government’s failure to honour the 2009 renegotiated agreement. With the postponement, students and stakeholders anxiously await the outcome of the rescheduled meeting, hoping for a resolution to the impending strike.
