Atiku Speaks To Late Uwa Omozuwa’s Father

Former Vice President of Nigeria Mr. Atiku Abubakar has said that he has spoken with the family of late Uwa Omozuwa female undergraduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) who was raped and killed at a Redeemed Christen Church of God in Edo state,

Atiku on his Facebook page said he feels their anguish lamented that ‘sadly, rape is now a pandemic in our country.I

He went on to say that the laws on rape need to be reviewed to ensure that there are no escape routes in the investigation, prosecution, conviction, and adequate punishment for this heinous crime.

He said: ‘I just spoke to the family of the late Uwa Omozuwa. I expressed my deepest condolences over her rape and murder. I feel their anguish. Sadly, rape is now a pandemic in our country. It is time we reviewed the laws on rape to ensure that there are no escape routes in the investigation, prosecution, conviction, and adequate punishment for this heinous crime. -AA’

Omozuwa, 23, was allegedly attacked and wounded while studying inside the church located at Amadasun Street, Ohovbe Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, in Edo.

The 100-level student died as a result of the incident.
