Amotekun: Ogun Suspends Sale Of Recruitment Form

The sale of forms for recruitment to individuals interested in joining the southwest security outfit, Operation Amoteku, has been temporarily suspended in Ogun state.

According to Channels TV, the sale of the form was earlier scheduled to commence on Monday, February 10, in the state. Legit.ng gathers that the coordinator of the security outfit in Ogun state, Taofeek Olawale, said this was as a result of the need to harness modalities and logistics for a hitch-free registration of applicants in the state.

There is currently a synergy between the legislative and judiciary. We are trying to put everything in order. The federal government, particularly the Inspector General of Police will still be reached out,” he was quoted to have said. The coordinator warned prospective applicants to beware of fraudulent and unscrupulous people who may want to take advantage of the situation. He called for the cooperation of prospective applicants noting that a new date for the sale of the form will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, following the order by the federal government that the southwest governors should liaise with their respective Houses of Assemblies to come up with the law that would legalize the Operation Amotekun, the attorneys-generals of the six states have put finishing touches to the required legal framework on the initiative. The said on the night of Friday, February 7, that the action was taken to put the required legal framework for Operation Amotekun which aims at combating crimes in the region.

Legit.ng gathered that according to the details of the agreed framework, each of the southwest states would have their legislation and security network operatives, which would bear the name Amotekun corps. Those in attendance were: Prof Oyewole Oyewo (Oyo), Oluwafemi Akande (Osun), Olawale Fapohunda (Ekiti), Adekola Olawole (Ondo), Akingbolahan Adeniran (Ogun) and Moyosore Onigbanjo (Lagos) who was represented by the director of civil litigation, S. A Quadri. Addressing journalists after the meeting in the company of the other AGs, Oyewo denied insinuations the meeting could not hold earlier on Thursday, February 6, as planned because of political constraints. He said: “Logistics and the challenges of the office of Attorneys-General in the various Southwest states necessitated the change in the meeting day.”

Also, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state has given an assurance that Operation Amotekun is here to stay. He disclosed this while addressing the people of Ekiti state during a live radio program tagged ‘Mr. Governor Speaks’ on Sunday, February 2. During the show which was monitored by Nigerian Tribune, he spoke about several issues including the way forward for the famous regional security outfit. According to him, the people have taken Amotekun far beyond what the governors had planned initially.
