Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has expressed uncertainty about his fitness for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Angola, stating that he doesn’t know if he will be fit in time to play.
Recall that Nwabali sustained a knee injury in Nigeria’s AFCON Round of 16 victory against Cameroon on Saturday.
The Chippa United star collided with Cameroon winger Georges Nkoudou during the encounter.
His Super Eagles teammate Francis Uzoho took his place 10 minutes from time after he was stretchered off the pitch.
Nwabali now has around a week to recover from the injury, with the Super Eagles’ AFCON quarter-final tie against Angola coming up next Friday.
Speaking to reporters after the win over Cameroon, Nwabali, who noted that injuries are part of the game, said he would be fine.
“I was OK before this game [Nigeria vs Cameroon]. But it [injury] happens. I will be fine. I don’t know [if I would be fit for the next game]. I will still come back,” he said.
