A medical doctor has died after contracting coronavirus in Benue state.
The top doctor identified as Anweh Damian, who is also a member of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), federal medical center (FMC) in Makurdi, Benue state died of COVID-19 complications.
The association announced his death in a statement signed by A.A. Uche, MDCAN secretary, FMC Makurdi, on Monday.
Uche said the physician died on Saturday of COVID-19 complications.
“It is with a heavy heart but total submission to God that we the members of MDCAN FMC Makurdi regret to announce the death of Dr Anweh Damian, consultant Family Physician. The sad event occurred on Saturday 18th December, 2020 following covid 19 complication. We pray that Almighty God will grant him eternal rest,” he said.
He said Damian was a special grade one consultant and consultant family physician at the federal medical centre.
So far, Nigeria has recorded 78,438 COVID-19 cases. While 68,303 patients have recovered, 1,221 people have died — according to figures by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
