Enyimba international players were attacked by a suspected group of armed robbers on their way back to Aba from Yola on Thursday.

The People’s Elephants were triumphant in their match-day 25 fixture over Adamawa United at the Ribadu Square Stadium on Wednesday, March 18.

Their celebration on route back to base was however cut short as one of the players whose identity has been withheld sustained injuries in the process.

According to BusyBuddies, the club confirmed no other casualty was recorded in the attack but the thieves carted away their valuables and cash.

According to reports reaching GIOTV , the incident took place along the Enugu-Okigwe-Umuahia Expressway in Imo State. The players, as well as the officials, took cover in the bush after the robbers gained entrance into their bus having shattered their windshields.

Meanwhile, this about the second time this is happening to the most successful team in the history of the Nigeria Professional Football League in four years. They suffered a similar occurrence in 2016 when they were traveling to Kaduna for the Super Four tourney somewhere close to Okene, Kogi State. Enyimba are not the only team to have suffered such attacks as FC IfeanyiUbah and Kano Pillars among others encountered road mishaps before.

Meanwhile, their victory away from home will give them something to cheer about as they climbed to fifth on the log.

Though they have a long way to go as they are 13 points behind log leaders Plateau United – they can close the gap as they have five games in hand due to continental assignment.
