Six Boko Haram insurgents were killed by troops of the 21 Armored Brigade in Bama during a raid on an illegal market established by the terrorists at Bararam village in Bama Local Government, Borno State.
It was reported that the raid was carried out on Wednesday, August 24, at about 11 am by troops in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, said commercial activities were going on when the troops busted the illegal market.
Upon sighting the troops, the terrorists opened fire but were swiftly engaged, adding that six of them were neutralized by the troops. The traders were reportedly selling items such as maize, beans, salt, Maggi, used cloths, drugs, and petrol to the insurgents in exchange for scrap metals.
Makama said;
“They arrested dozens of Boko Haram including logistics suppliers, collaborators, and some weapons were recovered.” The suspects have been transferred to the Brigade headquarters in Bama for investigation.
