Gunmen Invade, Set Ablaze Anambra Broadcasting Service Office, K*ll One Police Officer

Gunmen on Sunday shot dead an unidentified policeman in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, and took away his rifle.

The gunmen also invaded and burnt the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station on Monday morning.

Confirming the incident, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, said information before him revealed that police operatives on observation patrol along Abatete Expressway, Ogidi, engaged some armed hoodlums in a gun battle.

According to him, during the gun duel, one of the police operatives was fatally wounded and due to the superior fire of the police, the gunmen fled.

“Meanwhile, Operation is still ongoing and patrol has been intensified in the area.
Further development shall be communicated please,” he added.

Also, unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Monday invaded the premises of Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Awada, Onitsha station, and burnt the premises.

They reportedly burnt a building, a company bus, and another vehicle belonging to a staff member parked on the premises.

It was gathered that no life was lost in the attack, but people on the premises at the time of the attack were brutalized by the gunmen.

A staff member who pleaded for anonymity said, “Our internal security, didn’t let them gain entrance to the studios and operational buildings, so they set our bus and a presenter’s vehicle parked in the field on fire and ran away.”
