BREAKING: Over 300 Abducted Zamfara Schoolgirls Freed After Govt Negotiation

Gunmen who abducted over 300 schoolgirls from their hostel at Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State have set them free.

The school girls were Kidnapped from their dormitories and moved into the bush by hundreds of bandits in the early hours of Friday.

Reliable sources said the schoolgirls were released on Sunday morning after the state government negotiated their release.

It was gathered that they are currently being escorted to the state capital, Gusau, where they will be received by the governor, Bello Matawalle.

The state police spokesman, Mohammed Shehu, said in a statement on Friday that security operatives have launched a manhunt for the rescue of the schoolgirls.

He said: “The Zamfara State Police Command in collaboration with the military have commenced a joint search and rescue operations with a view to rescuing the 317 students kidnapped by the armed bandits in Government Girls Science Secondary School Jangebe.”

Mr Shehu added that the state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, the Force Commander Operations Hadarin Daji, Major General Aminu Bande, Brigade Commander 1 Brigade, Nigeria Army Gusau and other state government officials led a heavily armed reinforcement team to Jangebe to complement the ongoing rescue operation in the locations where the students were believed to have been taken to.

The CP, while interfacing with the principal of the school and the parents, appealed to them to be calm as joint efforts of the Police and other security agencies will assuredly lead to the successful rescue of the students.
